Two prototypes of hetero-trinuclear complexes containing metal−metal bondings {Cp‘Rh[μ-E2C2(B10H10)]}2Mo(μ-CO)2 (Cp‘ = η5-1,3-tBu2C5H3, E = S(2a), Se(2b)), {Cp‘Rh[μ-E2C2(B10H10)]}2Ni (E = S (4a), Se (4b)) were obtained from the reactions of 16-electron complexes Cp‘Rh[E2C2(B10H10)] (E = S (1a), Se (1b)) with low-valence transition metal complexes, such as [Mo(CO)3(NC5H5)3] and Ni(COD)2, respectively. The molecular structures of Cp‘Rh[Se2C2(B10H10)] (1b), (Cp‘Rh)2[S2C2(B10H10)] (3a), {Cp‘Rh[μ-E2C2(B10H10)]}2Mo(μ-CO)2] (E = S (2a), Se (2b)), and {Cp‘Rh[μ-E2C2(B10H10)]}2Ni (E = S (4a), Se (4b)) have been determined by X-ray crystallography. All these complexes were characterized by elemental analysis and IR and NMR spectra.
