It is built and maintained by [Geoscape Australia](https://geoscape.com.au/) using authoritative government data. Further information about contributors to Administrative Boundaries is available [here](https://geoscape.com.au/legal/data-copyright-and-disclaimer/).\r\n\r\nThis dataset comprises seven Geoscape products:\r\n\r\n* Localities\r\n* Local Government Areas (LGAs)\r\n* Wards\r\n* Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Boundaries\r\n* Electoral Boundaries\r\n* State Boundaries and\r\n* Town Points\r\n\r\nUpdated versions of Administrative Boundaries are published on a quarterly basis.\r\n\r\nUsers have the option to download datasets with feature coordinates referencing either GDA94 or GDA2020 datums.\r\n\r\n**Notable changes in the November 2024 Administrative Boundaries release**\r\n\r\n* Two locality names in the Northern Territory have been changed. BESWICK and PIGEON HOLE have been replaced with WUGULARR and NITJPURRU respectively.\r\n\r\n* In New South Wales, the locality of BLUE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK has been retired and replaced by ‘Birrabang’, ‘Blue Labyrinth’, ‘Burramoko’, ‘Carmarthen’, ‘Govetts’, ‘Ingar’, ‘Jamison Valley’, ‘Kariwoga’, ’Massif Ridge’, ‘Mount Portal’, ‘Narrow Neck’, ‘Rocklily Ridge’ and ‘Tesselate Hill’ localities.\r\n\r\n* The November 2024 release includes updates to the Commonwealth Electoral Boundaries for NSW, VIC, and WA to reflect the redistribution of the boundaries.\r\n\r\n* There have been spatial changes (area) greater than 1 km2 to the localities: New South Wales - ‘Megalong Valley’, ‘Mount Wilson’, ‘Mount Tomah’, ‘Bell’, ‘Blackheath’, ‘Mount Victoria’, ‘Mount Irvine’, ‘Medlow Bath’, ‘Hazelbrook’, ‘Katoomba’, ‘Leura’, ‘Woodford’, ‘Razorback’, ‘Wentworth Falls’, ‘Linden’, and ‘Mount Hunter’. Victoria - ‘Metung’, ’Eagle Point’, ‘Newlands Arm’, and ‘Boole Poole’. Northern Territory - ‘Victoria River’ and ‘Nitjpurru’. South Australia - ‘Mount Compass’ and ‘Myponga’.\r\n\r\n* 4 new lga records have been added: ‘Unincorporated - Botany Bay Area’ in New South Wales, ‘Groote Archipelago Region’ in Northern Territory, ‘Shire Cocos (Keeling) Islands’ in Other Territories and ‘Lower Eyre Council’ in South Australia.\r\n \r\n* 2 lga records ‘Shire of Cocos Island’ in other Territories and ‘The DC of Lower Eyre Peninsula’ in South Australia have been retired.\r\n\r\n* There have been spatial changes (area) greater than 1 km2 to the ‘Charters Towers Regional’, Cloncurry Shire’, ‘Tablelands Regional’, ‘Unincorporated - Sydney Harbour Area’, and ‘East Arnhem Region’ Local Government Areas.\r\n\r\n**IMPORTANT NOTE: correction of issues with the 22 November 2022 release**\r\n\r\n* On 28 November 2022, the Administrative Boundaries dataset originally released on 22 November 2022 was amended and re-uploaded after Geoscape identified some issues with the original data for 'Electoral Boundaries'.\r\n* As a result of the error, some shapefiles were published in 3D rather than 2D, which may affect some users when importing data into GIS applications.\r\n* The error affected the Electoral Boundaries dataset, specifically the Commonwealth boundary data for Victoria and Western Australia, including 'All States'.\r\n* Only the ESRI Shapefile formats were affected (both GDA94 and GDA2020). The MapInfo TAB format was not affected.\r\n* Because the datasets are zipped into a single file, once the error was fixed by Geoscape all of Administrative Boundaries shapefiles had to be re-uploaded, rather than only the affected files.\r\n* If you downloaded either of the two Administrative Boundary ESRI Shapefiles between 22 November and 28 November 2022 and plan to use the Electoral Boundary component, you are advised to download the revised version dated 28 November 2022.
