Year-Round Infectome Profiling of Acute Febrile Respiratory Illness Post-Lifting of COVID-19 Restrictions

Following the complete lifting COVID-19 non-pharmaceutical interventions in China, respiratory infection cases surged, but the specific causes remained unclear. Therefore, 1,163 oropharyngeal swabs from Shenzhen fever clinic outpatients, and 338 oropharyngeal swabs from healthy individuals randomly recruited in Shenzhen, were collected between March 2023 to February 2024. Meta-transcriptomic sequencing for swabs samples was employed for microbial analysis, which reported a comprehensive overview of the infectome in patients with acute febrile respiratory illness and provided valuable insights for disease surveillance.
