Duckweed has the characteristics of high flavonoids and high starch, so it has an extensive application in bioethanol production, food, and traditional Chinese medicine. There are relatively few high-quality germplasm resources with both high flavonoid and high starch, however the underlying molecular mechanism remains unclarified. Identification of structural genes in the flavonoid/anthocyanin metabolism pathway may provide insights into purple-red in the 68-Red mutant.
