DSS was used to induce colitis in mice. In the first experiment, colitis mice were treated with pure compound of gallic acid and its aminated metabolite respectively. Fecal samples from both groups were collected and 16s rRNA sequencing was conducted to study the alteration in microbial structure. The collected feces from both groups also served as the source for extraction of fecal microbiota, which were further applied in second experiment involving fecal microbiota transplant in DSS-induced colitis mice. This FMT study aim to explore if the alteration in microbial profile observed in the first experiment is simply an epiphenomenon or if not, the contribution of microbiota to the observed colitis-alleviating effect of both gallic acid and its aminated metabolite.
