Sultana Abd Rabo (104 years old, born 1901, from Bethlehem) and Nakhleh Matar (85 years old from Beit Jala) interviewed by Abeer Abu Jaber on 27 June 2005. <br><br>Sultana Abd Rabo discusses the following: locusts came from the east and first went to Silwan in Jerusalem, then to Jerusalem itself and then to the whole country; starvation caused by the locusts; Arab men in the army working doing heavy lifting and manual labour; Britain repaired the roads, opened schools, taught people sports and sent gifted students abroad; later Britain gave up on the Arab population in favour of the Jews.<br><br>Nakhla Matar discusses the following: Sherif Hussein’s deal with Britain; locusts ate everything; people emigrated to Jordan; some wealthy people went to Jordan to buy food to sell on the black market. <br><br>Original audio recording: cassette tape. <br>Transcript: summary. <br>In the original collection at Bethlehem University this cassette tape was categorised as File 5 of Box 12. <br><br>This fileset exists as part of the Ottoman Empire and World War I collection within the Bethlehem University Oral History project of the Planet Bethlehem Archive.
