XMM-Newton Studies of a New Sample of X-ray Emitting Galactic SNRs

We propose to continue our study of a small sample of Galactic supernovaremnants that we have recently discovered to be Xray emitters. The sampleconsists of ejectadominated SNRs as well as ones with normal composition. Theproposed XMM observations will be an order of magnitude deeper than existingXray data. The specific goals of the XMM study are to (1) measure accuratevalues for the elemental abundances, (2) determine the evolutionary state of theremnants from their Xray emission properties (e.g., temperature, ionizationtimescale, flux), and (3) search for hard Xray sources that might be pulsars orpulsar wind nebulae. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
