The ultradeep survey in the CDFS field : an XMM-Newton legacy

The ultradeep XMM exposure in the Chandra Deep Field South will provide the mostsensitive survey of the hard Xray sky reaching the confusion limit in the 510keV band and thus targeting a yet unexplored discovery space. The XMM highenergy throughput will allow us to study with unprecedented detail the spectralproperties of a large sample (virgul 100) of heavily obscured and Compton Thick AGNat the redshift peak of their activity (zvirgul12). Thanks to the excellentmultiwavelength coverage we will assess the role of accreting SMBH in thecontext of galaxy evolution.
