Seals: Resting places in the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea from 1989, (buffer: 500m)

A resting place is a calculated area generated on the basis of individual berths of seals or grey seals. For this purpose, the berths are spatially summarized per year. A resting place is defined as a circle with a radius of 500m around a berth (with at least 2 seals), whereby several berths can be aggregated to a larger area. The distance of 500m was chosen because disturbances more than 500m away have no or little effect on dormant seals. These areas are needed for intervention planning in order to minimise the disturbances of the seals associated with the intervention. For seals, flights from 1.03-30.09 are taken into account for the calculation of resting places per year.
