A set of 247 Vicia faba accessions, representative of intraspecific genetic diversity, was selected for genotyping by exome capture. To obtain a reference genomic sequence and build a reference set of expressed genes, shotgun genomic reads were first generated using DNA extracted from leaf samples of V. faba cv. Hiverna, and then transcriptome reads were generated from leaf, flower, pod, and seed tissues. The exome capture design was performed on transcriptomic contigs after predicting putative exon/intron junctions and discarding repetitive as well as mitochondrial and chloroplastic sequences. Finally, exome capture was performed on the 247 accessions using the designed probes, and sequenced on an Illumina HiSeq4000 sequencing platform. The sequencing and genotyping work was carried out as part of the PeaMUST research project (project ANR-11-BTBR-0002), funded by the French government through the Investment for the Future program and the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.
