Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) are approximately 26-30 nucleotide single-stranded RNAs bound to Piwi proteins. In mice, the piRNA pathway is well characterized in male germ cells, but its regulation and function in oocytes are less well understood. We have profiled piRNAs in normal ovaries and mutant ones lacking Pld6, Mili, Miwi, or Dicer using deep sequencing.
