The metagenome of this symbiont was isolated from trophosome tissue of the deep-sea tubeworm Riftia pachyptila. The host species originated from Ph05 vent at 13°N East Pacific Rise. 454 sequencing resulted in a considerable reduction of DNA fragments, compared to the previously published Sanger sequence (Robidart et al., 2008, Environmental Microbiology Vol.3) and provided the basis for further proteomic investigations of the uncultured sulfide-oxidizing endosymbiont.
