Latin America: growth rates of inbound tourism volume 2020

As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded around the globe, the tourism sector in Latin America experienced harsh drops in the volume of inbound tourism. In second quarter of 2020, three subregions saw decreases of over 95 percent in this type of tourist arrivals while Mexico's inbound tourism fell by approximately 76 percent. For the third quarter of that year, South and Central America's growth rates stayed in the same level. Meanwhile, the Caribbean registered a decline of 80 percent while Mexico's only sank 58 percent in relation to the same period of the previous year. In 2019, the Latin American region recorded nearly 118 million visitor arrivals.
