The list includes the following stipulations: *All classes must be examined individually every quarter in Reading, Writing, Spelling, Composition and Arithmetic.*All other subjects must also be tested at least once a year, two or more each quarter, at the discretion of the headmaster or mistress.*The tests in Arithmetic and Spelling must be recorded.*Pupils’ names should be arranged in alphabetical order.*Pupils that are absent from the class examination should be tested as opportunity offers.*The record for each class must be signed by the headmaster or mistress and the class teacher.*Special value is attached to the remarks on individual pupils.*This record is of great importance both to the teacher and the inspector. The teacher will learn from it the general results of his teaching and the development of individual pupils from quarter to quarter. It is also an essential factor in determining the fitness of candidates for the qualifying certificate.
