资源简介:
In this study, the 'normal' gut community of healthy Vietnamese people is analysed. The prevalence of novel species was determined by identifying bacterial sequences with little similarity to currently described organisms. This can inform future culturing efforts to isolate Vietnamese gut bacteria, since these novel organisms may have important functions in the gut. Moreover, this study will help determine whether the 'normal' Vietnamese gut microbiome features signatures typical of antimicrobial use in countries with more regulated drug access. This study provides a platform for investigating whether this has general health implications in the Vietnamese population, since antimicrobial use is linked to a variety of health conditions. The characterisation of these samples has provided an opportunity to study the gut as a reservoir for ARGs in the context of high antimicrobial usage and high prevalence of antibiotic-resistant pathogens. This contributes to global understanding of the incidence of antibiotic resistance in gut bacteria.
