The Department of the Treasurer was responsible for the distribution of printed receipt books received from the Government Printer to Departments within Victorian Government. It was required to maintain a register, detailing the amount of particular types of receipt books that were received and subsequently distributed to other departments. Examples of such receipt books included those for Factory Licenses for the Factories Office and the Department of Labour; Birth, Death, and Marriage certificate receipt books for the Government Statist, and Oyster License receipts for the Public Works Department.This series was such a register.
