THE ROLE OF SOCIAL NETWORKS IN SHAPING POLITICAL IDEOLOGIES AND THEIR IMPACT ON SECURITY

This article examines the role of social networks in contemporary political communication, the mechanisms through which they shape political ideologies, and the opportunities and threats they pose to national security. The research draws on a systematic review of secondary sources, the comparative-historical method, and a case study of the Arab Spring (2010–2011). The findings show that social networks function simultaneously as a catalyst and a filter in ideological processes: while they broaden political participation, they also heighten the risks of disinformation, polarization, and external interference. The article concludes with recommendations for strengthening information security.
