The goal of this project was to sequence clones that arose from a gross chromosomal rearrangement triggered by an Alu inverted repeat in a CDC13 mutant that was deficient in telomere capping. The inducible cdc13-707fs mutant was utilized. The deduced mechanism of GCRs is ssDNA exposure as a result of telomere uncapping and resection which generates a fold back at the Alu IR resulting in a dicentric chromosome which is broken in anaphase and acquires a telomere through BIR.
