We constructed the transcriptome of the weedy annual short-day plant Oxybasis rubra for comprehensive search of differentially expressed genes in two different treatments.The seedlings were germinated and grown under permanent light for five days in growth chambers at 20 C under continuous light (cool-white fluorescent, 120 mmol m-2 s-1. Then a single dark period 12 h was applied in control plants. This period of darkness induces flowering in O. rubra by the activation of the florigene gene FLOWERING LOCUS T like 1 (CrFTL1). The dark period was interrupted by 15 minutes of red light (20 mmol m-2 s-1, 590-720 nm). The exposure started 6 h after the beginning of a dark period, at a subjective midnight. We examined the patterns of the differentially expressed genes, focusing on the genes related to floral induction such as the FTL paralogs, SOC1 and B-BOX genes.
