Regional means (± SD) for national data on the estimated prevalence of inadequate zinc intake for 188 countries, as calculated by varying assumptions to generate six different models1.

1Assumptions included nutrient composition database (Composite, IML or NDSR), Zn requirements (IZiNCG or FNB/IOM physiological requirements with the Miller equation to estimate zinc absorption and IZiNCG or FNB/IOM dietary requirements). All models assume a 25% inter-individual variation in zinc intake. Regional data are presented first for high-income countries, and then in ascending order (from left to right) according to the estimated prevalence of inadequate zinc intake. Regional classifications are based on the reporting regions of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors 2010 Study, and are grouped according to geographical location and dietary patterns (Table S3). Data are weighted by national population sizes.
