We combined complementary methods, including whole-genome shotgun sequencing of Illumina short reads and PacBio long reads, BioNano optical genome mapping and genetic linkage maps, to produce a reference-quality chromosome-scale genome sequence for cultivated peanut, Arachis hypogaea. This reference genome will serve as an important resource for studying allotetraploid genome evolution and accelerating the genome-assisted improvement of peanut.
