Vibrations affect social organisation in termites

Datasets - Data_ergatoids / Data_soldiers These data were collected on 16 colonies of the species termite Reticulitermes flavipes (column: colony_id). New reproductive and soldiers were counted every day. Newly differentiated reproductive were recognized thanks to the elongated abdomen and colour changes. Newly differentiated solider were recognized using the presence of highly developed mandibles. The day of differentiation of an individual ranged from 0 to 60 (column: day). Six different treatments were used: (i) two playbacks with a conserved original structure of the peaks recorded in the presence of reproductive (column treatment: Original +) and in the absence of reproductive (column treatment: Original -); (ii) two playbacks with a structure randomly transformed from the original recordings (called random) were recorded in the presence of reproductive (column treatment: Random +) and in the absence of reproductive (column treatment: Random -); (iii) two controls composed of 100 workers in the presence (column treatment: Control +) or absence (column treatment: Control -) of 2 reproductive (1 female and 1 male; brachypterous neotenic). The differentiation of an individual is annotated as 1 (column: diff_ergat), associated with the day of differentiation (column: day). Note that many individuals did not differentiate into reproductive or soldiers during the experiment (column: day = 60, column: diff_ergat = 0 in the dataset). Datasets - Data_body_shaking_body_shaker / Data_changing / Data_comparison_non_bs_vs_bs / Data_distribution / Data_6min_vs_bs_event These data were collected from video recordings analyzed with an automated individual tracking system. Variables related to the spatial distribution of individuals and their activity were extracted from the identity and coordinates of each individual for each image. R script - Script_R_Vibrations_social_organization_termites / Script_R_Supplementary_Vibrations_social_organization_termites These two R scripts allow to produce the associated figures and statistical analyses related to all datasets.
