This project was designed to identify genes that are differentially expressed across various cortical areas of adult, newborn and embryonic monkey brains. In our previous screening, we have identified a handful of genes that exhibit highly area-specific patterns of gene expression in the adult African green monkeys. All these genes proved to exhibit differential expression in this dataset. We also provide similar datasets for newborn monkeys and embryonic E79 monkeys. For adult brains, postmortem tissues of five African green monkeys (vervet monkeys; Chlorocebus pygerythrus) were used. Representative areas selected for comparison were (1) area 46 (frontal cortex) taken from both banks of principal sulcus, (2) area FA (primary motor area) taken from the anterior bank of the central sulcus, (3) area PC (primary somatosensory area) taken from the posterior bank of the central sulcus, (4) area TE taken from the temporal cortex and (5) area OC (primary visual area) taken from the occipital cortex. For newborn monkeys, corresponding tissues were taken from two rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta) and slightly different areas were taken from two pig-tailed monkeys (Macaca nemestrina). For embryonic monkeys, E79 crab-eating monkey brains were divided into four parts for RNA purification.
