SmartTogether pilot plots database

To fulfil the aims of the SmartTogether research initiative, a total of seven permanent pilot plots were established for ecological surveying (WP2), dendrochronological analyses (WP3), near-real-time monitoring of forest vitality (WP4), and stakeholder education (WP5). The spatial distribution of these permanent pilot plots within the country's borders and their positions within stands are illustrated in the supplied Figure 1. Administratively, six are located in the Srem region, and one is in the Bačka region. The following table shows the sample plot ID (SP), forest management unit, compartment, and stand where the plots are situated, along with their exact geodetic coordinates and the tree species equipped with sensors for monitoring. Additional metadata for each sampled tree is also provided within sampled_tree_metadata.xlsx. This file contains information about the tree location identifier, the forest management unit name, tree circumference [cm], x- and y-coordinates (EPSG:32634), altitude [m], and dbh [cm]. The most important information on soil properties, the characteristics of the geological substrate, and the results of phytocoenological observations are provided in the file named ecological_information WP2 M2.2.xls. For each sample plot, the data are provided in a separate sheet. Plotwise daily climate data (sample_plot_climate_data_daily.csv) are extracted from the grid originally compiled by Moreno and Hasenauer (2016) at a spatial resolution of ca. 1 km (v.4; Cruz-Alonso et al., 2023; Pucher & Neumann, 2023). The main climatic variables- mean, max and minimal air temperature ([⁰C]) and precipitation [mm/m2]) are further aggregated into monthly (sample_plot_climate_data_monthly.csv) and yearly data (sample_plot_climate_data_yearly.csv). All data are provided in wide format.
