Stratigraphic pollen analysis of sediments that span the past approximately 9400
radiocarbon years was undertaken to provide a look at the environmental record through time.
This stratigraphic record is undoubtedly broken by interruptions in deposition, if not erosional
events. Apparent interruptions probably overlie each of the cultural horizons. In addition to
identifying vegetation of this area throughout most of the Holocene using pollen analysis, FTIR
(Fourier transform infrared spectrography) was employed to examine selected samples
representing the cultural horizons and sediments in the immediately adjacent levels to identify
organic residues, such as evidence of meat processing.
