Thoughts on accelerating the capture of technological high ground for precise marine environmental assurance

The marine environment serves as a critical foundation for the development, utilization, protection, and governance of the ocean. Marine environmental support holds significant strategic importance for the exploitation of marine resources, ecological and environmental conservation, and the safeguarding of maritime rights and interests. It has become a strategic high ground in the new wave of marine technological innovation and development. This paper reviews the current status of global marine environmental support technologies, with a focus on the establishment and capabilities of the comprehensive “observation–forecasting–application–assessment” precision support technology system for the marine environment developed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It also offers reflections and prospects for future work. To accelerate efforts in securing the technological high ground in precision marine environmental support, it is essential to reinforce demand orientation by continuously addressing pressing user needs through iterative improvements, strengthen overall coordination to promote data sharing and application at the national level, and accelerate project deployment to foster the production of landmark major achievements for a strong maritime nation. These measures will provide strong support for achieving the independence and self-reliance of high-level marine science and technology.
