Data for "Species interactions determine the importance of response diversity for community stability to pulse disturbances" by Charlotte Kunze, Owen L. Petchey, Shymaolina Ghosh, and Helmut Hillebrand (2025): https://doi.org/10.22541/au.174498373.31851247/v1 Meta-Analysis data should be stored in a folder named 'Data'. Methods The first data (Multistab_species_data_repro) set contains all species-specific effect sizes of the original meta-analysis (Hillebrand & Kunze, 2020): The second dataset (MetaMultistab_since2017_revised) contains the updated dataset using the renewed Web Of Science search string (since 2017). All dataset contain the effect size between a control and a disturbed treatment for 128 experiments used to analyse the relationship between response diversity and community stability. A full description of the methods is in the paper associated to this manuscript. The data contains three sheets: meta contains all metadata to the studies species data gives species-specific response to disturbance and control abbreviations gives all column details: case.ID is a unique identifier for each experiments. Appendix S2 at the paper contains full documentation for each of the experiments. study.ID is a unique identifier for each study. ref reference - Appendix S2 at the paper contains full documentation for each of the experiments. spec.inf information on species or taxa level organism organism type system marine, freshwater or terrestrial field field or mesocosm lat Latitude of the experiment long Longtitude of the experiment differentiation differentiation between the experiments in one study duration time span of the expeirment time unit days sampl samplings conducted in the experiment units_replicates is the number of replicates in the experiment resp.cat categorizes the response variable as either biomass, abundance. Day day of the experiment, with 0 being the pre-distrubance day. source Relative duration within the experiment, i.e., normalizing the day of the experiment to the duration of the experiment, such that 1 is the final sampling date. func functional response species species name species_specification specification on species, i.e. plant or vascular plant START indicates start point RESIST indicates resistance RESIL indicates resilience time ponts RECOV indicates recovery time Con.M Mean of species response in control Con.SD SD of species response in control Con.SE SE of species response in control Con.N number of replicates in control Dist.M Mean of species response in disturbed treatment Dist.SD SD of species response in disturbed treatment DIST.SE SE of species response in disturbed treatment Dist.N number of replicates in disturbed treatment LRR one effect size of the disturbance, in most cases a log-response ratio. Again, for detauls see the paper's method section var.lrr is the sampling variance of the effect sizes, if blank it could not be derived from the primary literature.
