Comamonas thiooxydans CHJ01 were selected from industrial wastewater to metabolize m-cresol through protocatechuate and gentisate pathway. Through genome analysis and transcription analysis, we found mchAB and mchC genes that may be involved in m-cresol metabolism, and further identified their physiological functions through in vitro expression, enzyme activity determination and product identification. The results showed that mchA and mchB genes encode a two-component m-cresol methylhydroxylase.
