Enrichment of syntrophic acetate oxidising bacteria can be performed by providing a suitable environment for the gradual shift of the microbiome to represent the species of interest better. In this study 16S rRNA sequencing is used to monitor and select cultures for an enrichment of novel syntrophic acetate-oxidizing bacteria.
