Urban Greenness and Built-Up Change in Chennai: Latest Sentinel-2 Analysis

This latest satellite-based study captures how Chennai’s landscape is changing — from its green patches to its expanding built-up zones. Using Sentinel-2 NDVI and NDBI data, we compared recent observations taken under clear skies (less than 50 % cloud cover) to highlight patterns of vegetation health and urban growth. It’s a snapshot of how our city is breathing, where greenery thrives, where concrete spreads, and where balance is needed next.
