Data and code for crop-system restructuring analysis in China, 2000–2023

This record contains the data and analysis code used to support the manuscript “Grassland-associated maize-for-wheat restructuring in China’s food system”. The dataset integrates national and province-level crop, socioeconomic, demographic, livestock, agricultural-resource and grassland-context variables for mainland China from 2000 to 2023. The analysis quantifies crop-share changes, maize–wheat shift, crop restructuring intensity, provincial socio-ecological pathways and structural associations among grassland context, demographic-economic variables, livestock production intensity and crop restructuring. The uploaded files include cleaned analytical datasets, source-data documentation, scripts for data processing, statistical analyses and figure generation, and supporting files required to reproduce the main and supplementary figures. Province-level analyses cover 31 mainland provincial-level administrative units. Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan are not included because the agricultural and socioeconomic statistical series were not harmonized with the mainland provincial panel. This record is intended to support transparency and reproducibility of the associated manuscript. Users should cite this Zenodo record when reusing the data or code.
