AMR Surveillance Dashboard

Background

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing global threat that occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites evolve to resist the drugs designed to kill them. This leads to longer hospital stays, higher medical costs, and increased mortality. One of the key challenges in tackling AMR is the lack of timely, actionable data that can help healthcare professionals and policymakers make informed decisions.

Proposed Research

This project aims to develop an interactive Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Dashboard based on research using data from Pfizer, obtained through Vivli's website. The dashboard will visualize resistance trends over time, identify geographic and demographic hotspots, track antibiotic usage patterns, and forecast emerging resistance threats using machine learning models. It will also include tools to assess intervention effectiveness and support appropriate antibiotic prescribing.

How the research will:

1. Improve Patient Outcomes
By identifying resistance trends and high-risk pathogens in specific populations (e.g., pediatric vs adult), clinicians can make better-informed treatment choices, reduce the use of ineffective antibiotics, and minimize complications or treatment delays.

2. Strengthen Antibiotic Stewardship
The project will include prescription appropriateness metrics and intervention impact assessments, helping hospitals and care providers monitor how well stewardship programs are working and where improvements are needed.

3. Inform Public Health Practice
The research will generate actionable insights on resistance hotspots, antibiotic consumption patterns, and predictive alerts, supporting health departments and public health authorities in resource allocation, awareness campaigns, and infection control strategies.

4. Strengthen Health Systems
By promoting data-driven decision-making, the project empowers healthcare systems to proactively respond to AMR challenges. The scalable and modular nature of the dashboard allows integration with hospital records, national surveillance programs, and international reporting frameworks.
