Building Survey at Building 2, Struthers Farm, Edmundbyers, County Durham (OASIS ID: archaeol3-253085)

A Level 2 building survey was conducted of a derelict barn on the north-east edge of the village of Edmundbyers, County Durham. It comprised a two bay, two storey field barn with an incorporated lean to and an external staircase on the north-west elevation. Most elements of historic interest had already been stripped from the building. The roof truss design comprised a common rafter truss with collar ties, though much of the timber had evidently been salvaged. The design of the building suggests an upper hay loft and watering for livestock below. A full photographic record was produced, as were plans and elevations. In the absence of firm dating evidence the suggested construction date stands at 18th/19th century.
