This series comprises a collection of records of the Chief Executive Office of the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) (VA 1048). The chief administrative officer of the Royal Melbourne Hospital was initially known as the Secretary. The office was honorary until 1867. The title changed to Manager in 1934, then Executive Director in 1976, General Manager in 1996, and Chief Operating Officer in 2017. Records concern topics including: the name and logo of the hospital; the hospital’s coat of arms; the amalgamation of the RMH and the Essendon and District Memorial Hospital (VA 1247); the structure of the Committee and Board of Management of the RMH; the administrative structure of the RMH; international study tours made by RMH staff; and air raid precautions during the Second World War.
