The essay aims to analyze the visceral sensations of the experience of the trip Pasolini made to India, with Elsa Morante and Alberto Moravia, in 1961. All the senses, not only the sense of smell, are strongly involved. Pasolini wanders attentively through the chaotic reality of the Indian subcontinent, observing the gestures and rituals of the people, the singularity of the landscapes. The author also records the contradictions of a land that has within it, like two opposite and coexisting poles, enchantment and horror, which he returns with his well-known originality of vision.
