资源简介:
Over 2000 artifacts representing or depicting turtles and tortoises, housed at the Singapore Live Turtle and Tortoise Museum in Chinese Gardens were photographically documented in the summer of 2017 while the museum faced possible relocation. The collection consists of objects of high aesthetic value to playful kitsch, made of an array of materials including carved wood, brass, stone, plastic, ceramic, and other materials. The collected turtle artifacts represent geographic origins from Southeast Asia, as well as additional points of interest in Africa, the Americas, Asia and Australia. Images of objects in the private collection were taken with the permission and cooperation of museum owner Connie Tan for present and future educational research purposes. This digital image collection provides a foundation for future research into material culture, the history of animals, (multispecies) anthropology, environmental history, history of science, art history, public history, micro-histories, garden studies, history of zoology, wildlife conservation studies, veterinary studies, heritage studies, museum studies, and visual studies, in addition to image-oriented development of digital humanities tools and methods.
