NRS-4182 | Records of the Egg Supervision Committee

The Egg Supervision Committee was set up by the Egg Producers' Council at the request of the Commonwealth Minister of Commerce in September 1939, following the outbreak of War in Europe. The members were drawn from the State Egg Boards, the egg industry, and the Commonwealth Department of Commerce.The Committee was to act in an advisory and consultative capacity with regard to the export of eggs from Australia to Great Britain during the War and the contract between the United Kingdom and Australian Governments in respect of Australian egg export surpluses.The records of the Committee consist of minutes of proceedings; cables and statistics relating to the export contract; correspondence between the Committee and the egg marketing authorities of the various states, the Commonwealth Government, and shipping companies; regulations; returns; shipping advice; the supply of eggs to the armed services; and matters relating to staffing, fees and expenses.A full listing of these records is available.These records were held by the Egg Marketing Board.(12/5195-98). 4 boxes.Note:This description is extracted from Concise Guide to the State Archives of New South Wales, 3rd Edition 2000.
