资源简介:
This dataset contains research data for the PhD dissertation "Producing Place: Network of Spatial Practices at Makerere University, Kampala, with Students as Place Producers."Data Collection Place-based interviews were conducted in and around participants' dwelling sites from August to November 2023, employing three research methods: walking interviews, campus interviews, and home interviews. Walking interviews took place both on Makerere University campus and in surrounding neighborhoods, including Kikoni, Kikumi-Kikumi, Wandegeya, and Kagugube. Participants were recruited randomly on campus, with interviews conducted as the researcher accompanied them to their intended destinations. The flashcard technique was additionally applied to synthesize spatial practices across two dimensions: a people-focused time-budget survey and a place-focused dwelling practice survey. Participants arranged flashcards according to given instructions to document their daily routines and spatial behaviors.Language Considerations All interviews were conducted in English, which serves as both the official language and medium of education in Uganda. Given Uganda's linguistic diversity (over 56 ethnic groups and local languages) and the participants' educational backgrounds, English provided a suitable common language for participants to describe their daily experiences in an integrated manner across cultural backgrounds.Data Processing and Anonymization Interview transcripts have been anonymized through redaction of potentially identifiable words and expressions. All data are presented in fully de-identified form. Minimal processing was applied to preserve data integrity: grammatical errors were retained to maintain verbatim accounts, with corrections made only where necessary for clarity. When uncertainty arose regarding transcription accuracy, AI assistants (ChatGPT-5 and Claude) were consulted alongside contextual reflection and the researcher's memory.Reference System Transcripts are referenced as [T-number] (e.g., [T-1]) and flashcards as [F-number] (e.g., [F-1]). These numbering systems are separate and anonymized; linkages among data sources are retained only in an internal, non-public file.
