资源简介:
"Hydrographic results characterizing the water masses around the South Shetland Islands indicate that several water masses converge in the area, forming a front along the shelf break north of the archipelago. This front is associated with high densities of phytoplankton and Antarctic krill, although there is considerable variability in the seasonal abundance and reproductive success of krill, which are strongly correlated with multi-year trends in the physical environment. Predator foraging patterns and breeding success are tied to the annual availability of krill, which is the primary prey item in the Antarctic ecosystem during the austral summer. The following summarizes the results of the ecosystem-wide studies conducted during the 2010/11 U.S. AMLR Field Season"--Summary of 2010/11 results. editor, Jennifer G. Walsh. "February 2014."
