Nanoindentation tests of the hydroxyapatite composite coatings applicated on titanium alloys by the electrophoretic method

Currently, there are no metal materials that meet all biomechanical and biochemical requirements needed for long life implantable biomaterials. The main purpose of the study was to functionalize the surface of the titanium alloys used in biomaterial implants.
This dataset contains the results of a nanoindentation tests of the hydroxyapatite composite coatings with a silver nanoparticles applicated on Ti and TiZrNb alloys. Coatings were made by the electrophoresis method, where the voltage was a parameter of composite layer application (60 V and 80 V).
The nanoindentation tests revealed that application of the composite coating resulted in an increase in hardness and a decrease in the Young’s modulus value which is desirable for application in medicine. The hardness of Ti substrate increased from 5 GPa to 7.5 GPa and the Young’s modulus value decreased from 128.7±2.6 GPa to 121.0±1.0 GPa.
It was found that there was a noticeable linear relationship between increase in layer thickness and Young's modulus and hardness. What is more, composite coatings improved biocompatibility and osteointegration of the implant materials.
