资源简介:
Statue of Omphale in the park of Schönbrunn Palace. The sculpture dates back to around 1777 and was created under the direction of Johann Wilhelm Beyer. Omphale, in Greek mythology the daughter of Iardonas and widow of Tmolos, was Queen of Lydia. She is known in connection with Heracles. The latter had to serve as a slave as atonement for the murder of Iphitos and was bought by Omphale. When the queen learned who the slave was, she married him. Through blind love for her and effeminate through lavish living, Heracles did everything she asked. He wore women's clothes, began to spin wool and do other women's work, whereas she wore his lion skin and carried the wooden club.
