A microscopic image dataset of Permian volcanolithic fragment bearing sandstones from southwest China

We collect microscopic images of Permian volcanolithic fragment bearing sandstones in the southwestern China and establish a microscopic image dataset. This paper gives a brief description to this microscopic image dataset and introduces the lithic characteristics of representative micro images. Zeiss polarizing microscope (Zeiss) with camera system was used to observe and photograph sandstone thin sections. This dataset can also be used as a standard reference for digitization and auto identification of sandstone petrofacies, providing a basis for accurate digital identification of sandstone features in the future.
