Contrasting Old and Young Volcanism from Aitutaki, Cook Islands: Implications for the Origins of the Cook–Austral Volcanic Chain

The paper reports whole rock Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotope data and whole rock major and trace element data on basalts from the Cook Islands. The two islands that were the focus of the study include Atiu and Aitutaki, where the young and old stages of volcanism were targeted at Aitutaki. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the geochemical evolution of the Cook-Austral hotspots and to determine the origin of the older stage of volcanism at Aitutaki.
