Global River Basin Boundaries Dataset

global_river_basin.zip provides vector polygon or multipolygon features of 236 large hydrological catchment units that depict sub-basin boundaries at a global scale. Each catchment unit is associated with attribute information, including basin name, shape length, shape area, and spatial geometry. Among thses basins, 35 major river basins were selected to support global-scale hydrological analysis. The corresponding attribute information of the selected 35 major river basins is provided separately in global_major_35_basins.zip.The dataset can serve as spatial units for hydrological analyses, climate change studies, water resources assessment, and hydrological modeling at large and basin scale. The dataset is provided in ESRI Shapefile format and can be directly used in Geographic Information System (GIS) software. Coordinate reference system: WGS 84 geographic coordinate system (EPSG:4326).
