Staphylococcus aureus subsp. aureus strain HC556 belonging to the lineage ST239-SCCmecIII was isolated from the nose of a patient at a home care system in Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil in 2001. This isolate presents a natural attenuation of the agr-RNAIII transcription and a moderate ability to accumulate ica-independent biofilm.
