PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sound absorbing body which exhibits excellent sound-absorption effect in a sound range of daily life noise and has excellent reverberation suppression effect in a low sound range. SOLUTION: A sound absorbing body comprises: sheet-like first and second solid knittings knitted from a pair of base fabrics which are disposed apart from each other and connecting threads connecting the base fabrics by reciprocating between them; and supporting plates which are arranged between the first solid knitting and the second solid knitting and support the first solid knitting and the second solid knitting at a surface and a rear face. The first solid knitting has first permeability and the second solid knitting has second permeability different from the first permeability， and the supporting plates have permeability in at least a plate thickness direction and form air layers between the first solid knitting and the second solid knitting.
