Naked mole rats (Heterocephalus glaber) are a champion mammal which undergo frequent periods of hypoxia/anoxia exposure. Their adaptations to survive this stress are enabled by metabolic rate depression, which downregulates nonessential genes and processes and reorganizes metabolic processes. Our study investigated the role of microRNA regulation in cardiac tissue to elucidate its role in metabolic rate depression and 24 h hypoxia. We analyzed a small RNA sequencing dataset to predict specific microRNAs, KEGG pathways, and GO processes between normoxic vs. 24 h hypoxic heart tissue.
