VPRS 12245 Journal of Authorised Expenditure from the Public Account

According to the Audit Act 1899 (consolidation) and subsequent amendments, expenditure from the Public Account initiated by the Treasurer for a particular purpose required authorisation from the Auditor General and the Governor of Victoria. This approval occurred in the form of a warrant, an instrument signed by all three parties. Once a warrant had been approved, the Treasurer was authorised to issue orders for payment to specific parties for goods and services relating to the purpose authorised by the warrant.This series consists of a journal of expenditure authorised by orders of the Treasurer, and the warrants that authorised them in the following areas of expenditure:Special AppropriationsVotes [of Parliament]Refunds of RevenueTrust FundsRailways StoresSuspense AccountsPublic LoansFor each area of expenditure, the journal provides details of the warrant and order number, and the date and amount of transaction.
