Cyanobacteria 16S rRNA sequencing from NZ lake cores

The historical cyanobacteria communities of six New Zealand lakes were investigated over the past 500 to 1,500 years. Cyanobacterial blooms are happening in most of the study lakes, therefore the main goal was to see if this was a new occurrence (e.g. due to anthropogenic impact), or if these lakes were always dominated by toxic / bloom-forming cyanobacteria.
