VPRS 19266 Records of the President of Board of Management

This series comprises of various reports, papers and correspondence from former President of Board or Management, Bernard Traugott Zwar. Zwar was appointed Staff Surgeon at the Melbourne Hospital in 1911 as Out-patient Surgeon until 1919, as In-patient Surgeon until 1935, and from 1935 onwards as Honorary Consulting Surgeon. Zwar was on the hospital’s Board of Management from 1925 to 1937 and was elected President from 1937 to 1945. Amongst his documents are various articles and lectures he had presented along with papers and reports regarding appointments, governance, patients, medical education, staffing, clinics and medical research. As President, Zwar was a driving force in the move of the hospital from Lonsdale Street to Parkville. Included in this series are papers regarding the hospital development at the new site.
